The Sixties - As the post-war world began to find its feet again, the phenomenon of the teenager got into full swing as bands such as The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, along with the whole British Invasion, brought Rock n Roll into the mainstream. The younger generation began to exert its influence for the first time, through music, protest and raw enthusiasm, a cultural revolution took place.
Martin Luther King was a great civil rights leader in the 1960's, and it says a lot that he is one of very few Americans to be posthumously given a national holiday in their honor. We have a range of products bearing a simple and striking image of Dr King's face, perfect for any activist, or someone who wants to show solidarity with this undoubtedly great man.
The Sixties, some people say, didn't really start until the Seventies, which is why we've included an anti-war Vietnam War design in our Sixties section. The "Bring all the Boys Home Now" design comes from an anti-Vietnam War poster from the early 70's, and is a fine example of the atmosphere of the time, when protest changed the world.
The Forties - During World War II, of course, there was no anti-war protest in the face of Hitler's march across Europe. The war effort was expensive, and it was absolutely necessary that everyone, armed forces and civilian alike, did what they could to aid the effort. Campaigns to raise War Bonds were frequent and intense, and productivity in factories and farms had to be kept at the highest possible levels. Part of the propaganda to achieve this was a huge poster campaign featuring stark slogans along with inspiring images of war heroes or patriotic symbols. Another popular theme was the need to keep secrets safe, lest a careless comment could result in information falling into the wrong hands. We've put together a range of wartime designs, digitally remastered to bring out the vibrant colors and period artistry, and like everything else here at The T-Shirt Shop, they are available on our wide range of products, so you can buy them for yourself, or as a gift for someone else.
The USSR, or CCCP as it was known in Russian, was a global superpower based on Communism, and although the system utlimately collapsed, some very striking design came from that era. We've put together some Soviet based designs including CCCP t-shirts, an ice-cool Lenin design, and some other pieces evocative of the Soviet Union's design style.
