HORACE GOES SKIING was one of a series of games for the Sinclair Spectrumand Commodore 64 produced from 1982 - 1983. Other games were planned but not released, and despite a brief comeback in the mid 1990's with Horace in the Mystic Woods, the character is now firmly resident in the realm of nostalgia.

The original Horace game, Hungry Horace, was released in 1982, and was essentially a Pac Man clone, with the maze now called a "park", and the ghosts replaced by "park guards". Horace had to move around the park collecting food whilst avoiding the guards, and just like Pac Man, he was also able to collect a "power pill", enabling him to briefly turn the tables and catch the guards. The game was popular, as an official version of Pac Man was unavailable for the home computers of the day.

Also in 1982, Horace Goes Skiing was released. This was a two-part game, in which Horace had to first cross a busy road (almost exactly like the arcade classic Frogger) in order to reach the ski slopes, where the second part of the game would take place. Once on the slopes, Horace had to ski through gates whilst avoiding a collision with trees.

Horace and the Spiders was released in 1983, and this time only available for the ZX Spectrum. More original than the other two games, Spiders was essentially a platform game in which Horace must first avoid, and ultimately capture the spiders in their own webs before jumping on them.

A fourth game, Horace to the Rescue, was announced in 1985, but possibly due to rumoured health problems for the series' creator, William Tang, the game was never completed. Horace in the Mystic Woods was released for the Psion series 3a in the mid-nineties. Horace is a well-loved character, and made cameo appearances in later games, including the presence of "Horace's Ski Shop" in the 2003 PlayStation2 game Dog's Life.
