In Star Trek, the United Federation of Planets, often shortened to simply "The Federation" is the group of planets broadly making up the good guys in the franchise. Earth and Vulcan are among the founder members, with many other planets throughout the Alpha and Beta quadrants also enjoying membership and the protection of Starfleet and its powerful starships. This design shows the seal of the UFP, recognised throughout the galaxy as a sign of honour, justice and strength. This version of the design has been given a worn, washed effect for that aged look.
